         ALQUÉZAR
A visit to the medieval village Alquézar is a must.

At just 20km from Barbastro, the medieval village of Alquézar of Moor origin watches over the River Vero and offers unforgettable scenery from its spectacular hilltop location.

Once there, a highly recommended walk is known as the “pasarelas” or the footbridges of Alquézar. It takes around 1 ½ hours and will take you on a dramatic descent to the bottom of the River Canyon. Also suitable for children, it is an unforgettable experience.

The impressive collegiate church is also well worth a visit, but possibly one of the best ways to soak up the history and atmosphere of the village is simply to stroll along its maze of streets.

The Hotel Villa de Alquézar is our recommendation for overnight stays, but reserve in advance – the best accommodation always gets snapped up fast! It is a charming hotel, not only for the magnificence of the building and the good taste shown in the décor, but also for the warm welcome shown by Ela, Merche and Mariano. Mariano has been the mayor of the town for the last 23 years and over this time has managed to change a half-forgotten, run-down village into one of the most charming spots in the world.
